Point-to-point protocol over Ethernet is a network
protocol for encapsulating PPP frames in Ethernet frames. It is used mainly
with ADSL services for connecting multiple computer users on an Ethernet local
area network to a remote area network. It offers standard PPP features such
as authentication, encryption, and compression.
PPPoE is the protocol used by AirComPlus and many other ADSL carriers for
connecting high-speed modems to the service provider.
Unlike dialup connections, ADSL is "always on.
