What is PPPoE?

Point-to-point protocol over Ethernet is a network protocol for encapsulating PPP frames in Ethernet frames. It is used mainly with ADSL services for connecting multiple computer users on an Ethernet local area network to a remote area network. It offers standard PPP features such as authentication, encryption, and compression.

PPPoE is the protocol used by AirComPlus and many other ADSL carriers for connecting high-speed modems to the service provider.

Unlike dialup connections, ADSL is "always on.
